Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery:
Here are a few details about the types of Costa Rica cosmetic surgery performed by Dr. Vargas and his team.
Orthognatic surgery, Wisdom teeth, Bone graft, Sinus Lift
Orthognatic surgery is performed on patients with a malocclusion to change the positions of the jaws. Orthognathic surgery is corrective facial surgery where deformities of the jaw exist. It may be employed for functional and/or cosmetic reasons.
Wisdom teeth removal common, especially on young patients to prevent impaction and movement of teeth, dental cysts, cavities and/or pericoronitis. This procedure can be performed under local or general anethesia or with sedation by request. Sedation and general anesthesia are performed by a board certified anesthesiologist.
Bone grafts are typically done under local anesthesia. The purpose is to create new bone to give support to dental implants in the jaw. Normally we use your own bone to perform the graft. If this is not possible we sometimes use bovine bone from Switzerland to create good quality new bone.
A Sinus Lift consists of the augmentation of the bone on the upper jaw using the maxillary sinus, which is filled with a graft to provide sufficient bone height for the needed dental implants.
